Must admit that I was not an immediate fan of the Colonnes de [conceptual artist Daniel] Buren at the Palais Royal. But they've grown on me—they are a definite improvement over the parking lot that used to occupy this space, and small children think they're a playground. Rosemary Kneipp (whose blog, Aussie in France, is always interesting and informative) told me when I met her in November that Buren's design was inspired by those de rigueur gray-and-white striped awnings that shade the windows (including hers) overlooking the Palais Royal garden. A great B&W composition!
ReplyDeletePerfect lines!
I have yet not seen these columns-but they look so very nice! And they indeed remind me of the pretty awnings which make the houses in Paris even more wonderful...Just a few more weeks and they will be out again!
ReplyDeleteThey make a great subject for the black and white photographer.
ReplyDeleteMade for b&w; great composition.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo in B&W! Great composition!
ReplyDeletewonderful composition!
ReplyDeleteYour photo has great pattern and rhythm with all the columns.
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh, I didn't know that about his inspiration. I've loved them from the first, maybe because they were hidden away for almost two years. Now I find them the most delightful photo ops!

Lovely shot! And very interesting the inspiration behind these columns... they're a jolting juxtaposition between the elegant historical structure of the Palais Royal. Thank you for visiting my blog, I'm loving wandering through yours :)
ReplyDeleteDespite severe competition (Virginia and others...), this is certainly one of the best shots I have seen of the Buren columns!
ReplyDeleteAnd I of course agree with Peter. I love the Buren columns although there are plenty of detractors. It's a photographer's paradise. Glad we got to shot it together.

I love the way the local kids use them in such imaginative ways. BTW, the théâtre éphémère is being taken down at last and going to Geneva of all places!
