un citron pressé

The pause that refreshes in Paris:

When you ask for lemonade here, you get
freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar,
and water—c'est tout.  You don't get a whole lot of
ice (which I could have used on that day last
July when the temp hit 99°F/37°C),
but I was happy with my no-chemicals-added
drink on the shady terrace of a Paris café.

La Boutique Jaune

This quintessential Jewish bakery (and more)
has been in business on rue des Rosiers in the heart
of the Marais since 1946, passed down for

three generations.  To be honest, I'd rather have
a New York bagel any day, but their sandwiches (made
on an onion roll) are worth the trip—and the price.

Les fleurs de la reine

These bright nasturtiums were growing
at Marie-Antoinette's petit hameau . . .

where the ill-fated young queen and her
ladies-in-waiting liked to play at being
simple farm folk (ironique, n'est-ce pas?).
