Saint-Germain-des-Prés—begun in the 6th century as a Benedictine abbey—is the oldest church in Paris. The current renovation has restored this once dark and dingy church to its colorful and light-filled glory. [To see more churches from around the world, visit inSPIREd Sunday.] |

This lovely window is in the little stone church of Sainte Radegonde in Giverny —which I featured once on my other blog. [Linking back to inSPIREd Sunday and Blue Monday.] |

Saint-Antoine-des-Quinze-Vingts
This is very much a "local" church, catering to its parishioners in the 12th arrondissement. However, it does have two beautiful organs; the main one, built by Cavaillé-Coll, is considered one of the best examples of symphonic organs in Paris—and some powerful music has been recorded in this church. Dans la Cathédrale Notre Dame
I love this church, but not so much when it's filled to overflowing with visitors. The best time to really see it, to appreciate the sheer size—and the silence—is when the doors are first opened, at 8 a.m. [Am linking back to The Weekend in Black and White, Shadow Shot Sunday, inSPIREd Sunday and Dreaming of France.] |
